Laxwomen Defeat Dartmouth, 12-9

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Led by sharpshooter Sarah Mleczko's five goals, the Harvard women's lacrosse team outgunned Dartmouth, 12-9, in Hanover, N.H. yesterday.

The Sorrow and the Pity

The laxwomen fell behind early, but roaring back as Mleczko tallied three times in the first half to give the Crimson a 7-6 halftime lead.

Stellar defensive play by Annie Velie and goalie Nancy Boutillier held off the Big Green offense in the second half and a balanced scoring attack racked up five more goals to seal the victory.

Velie, who also notched a goal and an assist, came up with 15 interceptions to lead the squad. Meanwhile, netminder Boutillier was turning away 12 Dartmouth shots in another fine performance.

In the play of the day, Chris Sailer tallied a rare marker from the point position as she raced the length of the field on an end run and hurled the ball into the twines.

The laxwomen now stand at 11-6-1 and see their next action this weekend at the AIAW s, where they will close out the 1980 season.

SCORING: Mlezcko 5, Bryan 2, White 2, Kornman 1, Sailer 1, Velie 1.
