Investment Company Resumes Recruiting B-School Students

A company that was barred two weeks ago from giving its scheduled presentation at the Business School held introductory recruitment meetings for Business and Law School students in Cambridge this week.

The Business School Management Consulting Club (MCC) cancelled the presentation of Bain and Co., Inc., a Boston-based consulting firm, after Bain violated the B-School's recruiting guidelines. The firm broke official hiring rules by extending to B-school summer interns special "exploding offers," in-full-time employment early.

Bain held meetings Tuesday and Wednesday at the Hyatt Regency Hotel for B-School students.

Sponsored solely by Bain, Tuesday's sesion was exclusively for B-School students, John Rutherford, a Bain vice president, said yesterday. The B-School's European Club sponsored the Wednesday night recruitment session on "international prospects in management consulting."

MCC members announced Tuesday's presentation in classes earlier this week, Steven K. Sydnes, president of the Student Association and a second-year business student, said yesterday.

James L. Heskett, senior associate dean of the Business School, declined to comment yesterday on Bain's meetings this week with students.

Bain also held a recruitment meeting at the Law School Tuesday afternoon, June Thompson, placement director, said yesterday.

"We have never had any complaints against Bain," Thompson said, adding, however, that the Law School "has similar recruitment goals and guidelines" to the B-School's.
