AMHERST, Mass.--Amherst College Wednesday suspended two black students for burning a cross on campus April 16. The college would not identify the students, who left campus yesterday, because the affair is "an internal disciplinary matter."
The cross burning touched off a series of discussions on racism, and prompted black students and sympathizers to take over a college building on April 23.
The college's Judicial Board will review the matter and can impose penalties including expulsion, college spokesman Doug Wilson said yesterday.
