CHUL Moves Date for Room Cancellations

By Susan K. Brown

The Committee on Houses and Undergraduate Life (CHUL) yesterday passed a motion moving the deadline for summer cancellation of room reservations from August 20 to August 5. After that date, students must pay $175.

CHUL had received several complaints, especially from House secretaries, that the August 20 deadline comes too close to registration to give the House offices enough time to make adjustments for students taking time off and returning from leaves.

"The change will facilitate students in the long run because it will free up the house offices to help with transfers and other administrative duties." Jim DeBello '80, a CHUL member on the House Systems Subcommittee, said yesterday.

CHUL passed the motion without debate.

In other business, CHUL officially recognized two new undergraduate organizations, the Talisman Music Society and the College Bowl Team. The Talisman Society is an imformal group which sings popular songs and barbershop numbers.

The College Bowl Team will promote that game by providing a way to select teams to represent Harvard at regional or national competitions.
