Unbeaten J.V. Tops Huskies; Duffy Shines

In a penalty-marred game, the Harvard junior varsity hockey team maintained its unblemished record with a 4-1 victory over crosstown rival Northeastern last night at the Boston Arena.

With both teams playing a man short, Harvard drew first blood when an alert Scott Schereschewsky blasted in defenseman Doug Horton's rebound during a goalmouth melee.

The Crimson surged further ahead when Dale Valicenti scored on a two-on-one break with seven minutes left in the second period. Paul Mangano provided the assist.

Sterling goaltending by freshman Gifford Duffy kept the Huskies off the scoreboard until late in the second period. Duffy repeatedly thwarted Northeastern's relentless attack, garnering 28 saves for the night, many in one-on-one situations.

In the second period, with Northeastern on a power play, Horton managed to steal the puck at the Huskies' blue line and deftly elude two defenders for Harvard's third tally.

John Gady broke the scoring drought for Northeastern a minute later on a hard slapshot with Harvard still a man short.

Harvard's final score came with 15 seconds left in the game when Paul Yeomelakis broke up the Huskies' last onslaught, took the puck at the red line, and fired it into the untended goal.
