Lamont Library's new weekend reserve book policy requiring that at least one copy of each reserve book be kept on threehour reserve elicited limited approval from students yesterday.
Library officials said yesterday the new policy, implemented on Saturday, will better serve the needs of students who hold jobs during the week. Under the old policy, every reserve book could be lent out for the weekend loan period, from 11 a.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Monday.
Many students contacted yesterday said they think the new policy is an improvement, but questioned whether keeping one copy of each book on three-hour reserve would meet the demands of students in large lecture courses.
Hilles Library in February experimented with a new reserve policy in which all reserve books were loaned out for a 24-hour period.
Patricia E. Hall, public services librarian, said yesterday the 24-hour policy did not "benefit enough people to justify keeping it." The policy was discontinued last week.
