Boston City Councilor Lawrence S. DiCara '71 will run for the Democratic nomination for State Treasurer against incumbent Robert Q. Crane, DiCara said yesterday.
A Harvard undergraduate, Mark Roosevelt '78, will be DiCara's campaign manager. Although it is "highly unusual" to have a college student running a campaign, DiCara said yesterday that Roosevelt is "the brightest, hottest piece of political equipment available."
DiCara believes the upcoming campaign will be the "classic political contest." It will be a contest between "different generations and different attitudes," he said. The average age of DiCara's campaign staff will be in the mid-20s, he said Crane has been State Treasurer for 14 years.
