College Establishes Committee To Find New Freshman Dean

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Dean Fox has set up a committee to search for a new dean of freshmen to replace F. Skiddy von Stade Jr. '37, who retired from the job last year.

The committee will first decide on a job description and then recommend a candidate for the position, Dean Fox, chairman of the committee, said yesterday.

Alberta Arthurs is serving this year as acting dean of freshmen.

Fox has appointed Robert E. Kaufmann '62, assistant dean of the Faculty for financial affairs, Virginia Merlier, assistant professor of Romance Languages and Literatures, Richard J. Herrnstein, professor of Psychology, and Glen W. Bowersock '57, professor of Greek and Latin, to the committee.

The committee will not decide whether the replacement should be from inside or outside the University until it has defined the scope of the job, Fox said yesterday.

The committee has until July 1 to make a recommendation.

Last month the committee met briefly, and has scheduled a more substantial meeting for early this month.
