Health Services Delay Opening Of Pharmacy

The opening of the University Health Services-Stillman Infirmary Pharmacy scheduled for this morning has been postponed until Monday because of a delay in getting stock, Dr. Warren E.C. Wacker, director of University Health Services, said yesterday.

The pharmacy, which will be located in Holyoke Center where Chester Baker Pharmacy formerly stood, will run on a non-profit basis and sell drugs and appliances only on prescriptions written by UHS doctors.

Prices will be lower than those at most pharmacies in the Square, Wacker said, adding that prices will come down further if sales exceed the expected volume.

Students will be able to charge drugs on their terms bills with their bursar's cards.

All those provided free care from the health services will be allowed to use the pharmacy. This group of 30,000 includes students, faculty, employees, and retired faculty and employees.

Wacker said the idea for a pharmacy working in conjunction with UHS has been in the planning stage for over two years.

Wacker has hired Karl Wood, assistant pharmacist at Mass General Hospital, to be a full-time pharmacist. A woman, whose name was unavailable yesterday, has been hired to fill the position of assistant pharmacist, to meet the growing needs of women in the college community, Wacker said.
