WHRB Conducts Fund Drive To Purchase Capital Equipment

By Lisa Brown

WHRB, Harvard's student-staffed radio station, is beginning a drive this week to raise funds to purchase capital equipment and to expand the station's operations.

David H. Ring '77, president of WHRB, said last week the drive is expected to raise approximately $90,000 in six to nine months.

Some of the funds will be used to purchase transmitting equipment for a radio tower in Medford donated to the University last January by CBS, Ring said.

The station is currently experiencing interference problems because of its location on top of Holyoke Center, Ring said, adding that the new tower's location will minimize interference and "roughly triple the station's range coverage."

Proceeds of the drive will also be used to purchase broadcasting equipment for WHRB's studio in the basement of Memorial Hall, Ring said.

WHRB will solicit funds from station members and alumni, people in the broadeasting industry and WHRB listener, Ring added.
