Some 20 members of the Committee to Defend Sherman Holcombe picketed the Boston headquarters of Local 26 of the Cooks and Pastry Cooks union yesterday while representatives of the University and union met to hear Holcombe's grievances against the University.
Edward W. Powers, director of employee relations, will decide this week whether Holcombe, former shop steward at Radcliffe Dining Halls, should receive back pay for his eight-day suspension in February.
If Powers denies Holcombe's grievances, the union can appeal to a neutral arbiter as a last resort.
Speaking of yesterday's meeting, Holcombe said Powers was "there just to find out what I know to use it against me in arbitration. Eventually the administrators will find a way to get rid of me."
Some of the pro-Holcombe protestors are not working to help Holcombe but merely to create mass unrest, Powers said yesterday.
