Hill Will Lead Next Year's Cagers...

Harvard basketball added a surprising post-season note Monday night when it named guard Jeff Hill captain of next year's squad.

Hill, although injured for most of the season, outpolled juniors Brian Banks, Doc Hines, Jonas Honick, and Joe Leondis, who all saw substantial playing time throughout the season.

As the effects of an' off-season knee operation wore off, Hill came on to start in seven of the Crimson's last eight contests. During that period he was one of the bright offensive threats for the hoopsters, averaging close to double figures in scoring.

Highlighting Hill's abbreviated season was a 15-point, 6-rebound effort in the squad's last victory of the season, 92-83 over the Columbia Lions.

Hill expressed little surprise about the outcome of the election, noting that "It's always an honor when your teammates think of you as a leader."

The 6-ft. 2-in., 166-1b. backcourt man was as dismayed about the team's performance this season as anyone, though. "We definitely have the talent every year to do well, but lack of discipline, motivation, and effort always seem to hurt us," Hill commented.

Same Old Story

"Unless we do something about these problems it's going to be the same old story next year, another piss-poor record," he added.

The hoopsters' season left something to be desired, as they split games with perennial Ivy League doormats Columbia, Cornell, and Yale, while winning just five other contests outside the conference for an 8-18 overall slate. The squad placed dead-last in the Ivy league with a 3-11 mark.

Captain-elect Hill went on to point out, "If we can solve the internal problems, we can be a real good club, but this has been said for the last three seasons."
