Student supporters of suspended shop steward Sherman Holcombe will circulate a petition on Thursday calling for the reinstatement of the Radcliffe dining hall employee.
The Committee to Reinstate Sherman Holcombe voted last night to circulate the petition at House dining halls later this week. Holcombe's union, Local 26 of the Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Employees Union, AFL-CIO, drew up the petition.
The petition "deplores the continuous anti-union and racist harassment of Mr. Holcombe" and notes that his indefinite suspension followed Holcombe's submission of five union grievances last Tuesday.
Holcombe appeared briefly at the beginning of the meeting, asking for "a united effort between students and workers" to help him return to work.
The committee voted against a proposal to hold a demonstration later this week similar to the boycott of the North House dining halls last Sunday.
