Crimson Rugby Club Falls; Team Defeats Bruin Foes

The Harvard Rugby Football Club's A team bowed to Brown Saturday, 4-0, while the Crimson B team overpowered their Bruin opponents in a come-from-behind 9-4 victory.

Harvard dominated in certain areas in the A game, noticeably the scrum, but the game was decided in the backfield.

"Brown has really good backs," Durham said, adding, "We couldn't get the ball around them."

The Bruins scored the lone goal of the day with a try midway through the second half.

Up against a strong Bruin defense, the Crimson A team proved unable to take advantage of numerous scoring opportunities in the game.

"We did everything right except score," Mark Hefner, the club president, said yesterday. "Next week we're going to have scoring practice."

The culmination of the Crimson's frustration came in the final seconds of the game, as Harvard threatened the Brown goal. In three successive plays, the Crimson drove the ball within yards of a tying try, only to watch the Brown defenders kick the ball away.

The more successful Harvard B team drew blood first in their contest with a three-point penalty kick by Jim Durham, the team's captain.

"I finally got a good one off," said Durham. "It went well over thirty yards."

Brown answered near the end of the first half, by stinging the Crimson with a long breakaway run which put them ahead, 4-3.
