Laxwomen Bow to Huskies

The Radcliffe lacrosse team played a strong game yesterday, but bowed to a tough Northeastern squad, 9-6.

"It's the first time we lost and still felt we did a superb job," Coach Molly Quinby said yesterday. "Usually [in a loss] there's a thousand things we can point out that we did wrong, but we did the game justice."

"Our hustle was good, our speed was good, and our passing was up to par," she said. "No one felt we were making sloppy mistakes."

Quinby added that Radcliffe lost the game because of poor ground fielding.

"Ninety-nine per cent" of the ground balls ended up on the Northeastern stick, she said.

The game's first half was close, ending with a 5-4 Northeastern lead. Radcliffe opened the scoring with a goal by Barb Matson. Mars Child and Chloe Gavin also tallied for the Crimson, and Barbara Matson returned to score again: rounding out Radcliffe's attack. Northeastern's right wing highlighted first period play by registering a hat trick.

Though Northeastern out shot the 'Cliffe in the first half, the Crimson laxwomen had a higher percentage of goals on the shots they attempted.

The Northeastern squad took command in the second half by scoring three unanswered goals before Barb Matson fed one into the net. Matson scored once more before game's end, and was the only Crimson player to score in the second half.
