Quadrangle Group Proposes Options To Housing Plan

The newly-formed Quad Committee and members of the Committee on Houses and Undergraduate Life met jointly yesterday to discuss alternative plans to the proposal to house all freshmen in the Quad and sophomores in the Yard.

Jeffrey K. Griffiths, chairman of the Quad Committee, presented the Committee's opposition to the proposal which they called an "educationally and socially ill-conceived plan."

The Committee also charged that isolation of freshmen at the Quad would deprive them of "the advice and assistance" of older students and would "impede their integration into University life."

The proposal to house freshmen in the Quad and sophomores in the Yard grew out of complaints from 130 freshmen who were assigned to Quad houses which they listed as one of their last three House choices.

Yale Place Discussed

Among the optional plans which the Quad Committee discussed were adoption of the Yale housing plan, in which incoming freshmen would be assigned to a House for four years, and conversion of Yard dormitories into four-year dormitories.
