George Putnam '49, Harvard treasurer and Walter M. Cabot '55, president of Harvard Management Company, have been named to an independent task force to examine college and university endowment policies.

The task force, set up and funded by the Twentieth Century Fund, is chaired by John Gilligan, former governor of Ohio. Its first meeting was held on Thursday in New York.

J. Peter Williamson, a student in the School of Business Administration at Dartmouth, is preparing the background paper that the task force will review and add to in its six scheduled monthly meetings.
