The Faculty Council started discussing the proposed $130,000 Third World Cultural Center this week, meeting with black students and Faculty. The meeting was purely informational, but next week the council will probably begin a discussion of the merits of the proposed center.
There seem to be two main issues involved: money ($130,000 plus a house is unheard of for a Facultysupported student activity) and the racial emphasis of the center. The Faculty currently does not give money to any organization of ethnic groups.
