The Radcliffe swim team and challengers from five other New England colleges will take to the water today at 1 p.m. in the IAB for the 11th annual Radcliffe Invitational Swim Meet.
Swimmers from Mount Holyoke, Brown, University of Rhode Island, Wellesley and Wheaton will join the Cliffe team for the 13-event contest which will probably produce several New England records.
The Cliffe, having swamped all opponents this season, will probably encounter strong opposition from the Brown team, which just returned from a training week in Florida.
However, Radcliffe should emerge high and dry, sources close to the team predicted yesterday. Captain Connie Cervilla and her teammate RoAnn Costin nationally ranked in the butterfly and freestyle respectively, have recently broken their individual season records. Nancy Sato, the team diver, and Jeannie Drew--two other veterans of the Nationals--have also steadily improved their times.
"This will easily be the most exciting college meet we've seen in this area this year," Coach Alice McCabe said yesterday. Among the visiting standouts are Lynn Eustis, Brown's freestyler, and Peggy O'Neil. Wellesley's diver.
Twelve swimmers will compete and score in each event--testing the 'Cliffe's depth as well as its top-ranked swimmers. Breaststrokers Sandy Wallace and Laura Lennihan, backstroker Jeannie Guyton, and free-styler Julie Bradley have steadily bolstered Radcliffe team totals throughout the season, and will be major factors in tomorrow's season-closing meet.
Captain Cervilla predicted that tomorrow's meet will be the high point of Radcliffe's 11th straight perfect season. "After this, it's on to the championships," she said
