Drivers Warned To Control Speed At Dawn, Dusk

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Registrar David J. Lucey cautions that the return to Standard Time on Sunday, October 28, may pose additional hazards to drivers as the commute to and from work one hour earlier than usual.

Since the peak number of accidents occur during hours of dusk and darkness, the following suggestions are offered in order to avoid collisions:

Be certain that lights are burning and that they are clean;

Keep the inside and outside of the windshield clean and clear;

Dim headlights within 500 feet of on-coming vehicles to cut glare;

Keep speed down--don't overdrive headlights;

Be alert--shadows or flashing or blinking lights may mean trouble; and

Allow extra time for travel during hours of darkness.

The Registrar also said that drivers should slow down on Halloween to protect children who may be darting about in dark costumes during dusk or early darkness, especially in residential areas.
