Boston area antiwar groups are planning increased activity on both a local and national level in response to President Nixon's renewed military action in Vietnam.
The focus of local activities will be a demonstration in Boston on January 19, to be followed by inauguration day activities in Washington on January 20.
January 19
The Boston demonstration is being organized by the January 19th Committee, a non-partisan group composed of a broad spectrum of local antiwar organizers.
The Committee said the actions are intended to show national solidarity in support of U.S. withdrawal from Vietnam and American approval of the Nine Point Peace Plan made public by the North Vietnamese in October.
The local demonstration is slated to begin at the Boston Common at 11:30 a.m. and then move to Government Center, where there will be several speakers and entertainers. Demonstrators will then move to Faneuil Hall.
Rev. Lawrence Hill, a member of the Cambridge Ministries and a member of the January 19th Committee, emphasized the non-partisan nature of the Committee and the broad base of membership, He also said the group will sponsor a public meeting to plan for the demonstration on Sunday at 7:30 p.m., at the MIT Student Center.
