Crimson Celebrates 100th Anniversary In Weekend Fete

Over 250 graduate editors will return to Cambridge this weekend to help The Harvard Crimson celebrate its 100th anniversary at two day centennial festivities.

The Crimson will commemorate the centennial with a 38 page special edition on Wednesday exactly 100 years from the date of its first issue The newspaper then a biweekly called the Magenta began publishing on Jan 24. 1873.

A New History

Wednesdays special edition will include excerpts from a new history of Cambridge's Only Breakfast Table Daily be Michael J. Ryan '72, a former Crimson editor Ryan's book is slated to be published this fall.

The 18 page issue will also contain pictorial highlights of the weekend celebration and a regular 10 pave edition of the daily Crimson.

As part of the birthday celebration. The Crimson will sponsor a panel discussion on Saturday The Press and First Amendment Rights. The panel will consist of five former Crimson editors, and will be open the public. The discussion will begin at 2:30 p.m. in the Boylston Hall auditorium.

The centennial activities will continue that night at the Harvard Club in Boston Graduate editors will join 95 undergraduates for a centennial dinner featuring speakers from the last season decades.

Presidents Bok and Horner will join former President James Byrant Conant 14 in wishing The Crimson a happy birthday.
