An on again-off again Harvard golf team will try to pull things together this afternoon when it faces Cornell in Ithaca, New York. The Crimson, 6-4 on the year, should have no problem with the Big Red if they have a good day, something that has been difficult to predict this season.
The match, originally scheduled for early in April, had to be postponed after a late Ithaca blizzard, but indications are that the white stuff has not completely melted on the Robert Trent Jones designed course. "Cornell should have a big home advantage." Andy Marks, who had the Crimson's best round in Friday's loss to Princeton and Yale, said. "We have never seen the course, and they could be tough."
Harvard, which played poorly in losses to Penn, Columbia, Princeton and Yale, shot very well as a team while winning the Greater Boston last Monday. The Cornell match kicks off the most crucial week of the season.
On Wednesday the Crimson host Holy mass at home in Concord, a team Marks described as "excellent." An added incentive for Bob Harrison's squad will be the Eastern Intercollegiates at Yale this weekend. Only the top five men will make the trip to New Haven, and the individual performances in both the Cornell and Holy Cross matches will go a long way in determining the lineup Harvard will use.
