Two Crimson defensive players were named to the Associated Press 1972 All-New England College Football first team yesterday.
Senior end Mike McHugh and junior linebacker Sandy Tennant were Harvard's only representatives on the first team as no Crimson offensive player was named to either the first or second team.
Only defensive back Dave St. Pierre was chosen on the second team. The AP poll named senior halfback Ted DeMars to the third team. The only other Crimson player picked for the third team was defensive back Barry Malinowski.
Seven Crimson gridmen were cited for honorable mention in the poll of AP sports writers. Offensively, end John Hagerty, tackle Tim Manas, guard Doug Crim, and halfback Mark Wheeler were picked.
The writers mentioned tackle Ed Vena, linebacker Mark Ferguson, and defensive back Mike Murr on defense.
Dick Jauron, Yale's All American running back headed the list of players chosen for the first team. Jauron, the first Yale back to rush for more than 1000 yards in seasons, started in Yale's comeback victory over Harvard this year.
Jauron and Northeastern defensive back Tom Rezzuti, were the only repeaters from 1971 on the 22-man team. The quarterback pick was Roy Ferreira of Bridgeport.
