The Boston Bruins scored four goals in the second period Sunday night, including two short-handed tallies within 35 seconds, and went on to defeat the St. Louis Blues, 5-2, in a National Hockey League game.

The victory moved the Bruins six points ahead of the New York Rangers, who tied Minnesota, 1-1, in an afternoon contest.

Johnny Bucyk broke a 1-1 tie midway through the second period when he beat rookie goalie Wayne Stephenson from 10 feet on a power play. Stephenson, making the first NHL appearance of his career, had 26 saves.
