Graves to Head William and Mary

Thomas A. Graves Jr., associate dean of the Business School's MBA Faculty, will leave Harvard, effective September 1, to become the 24th president of William and Mary College, trustees announced Sunday.

Graves and yesterday, "I see myself as a professional manager of higher education. To be asked to take the leadership of this type of institution is something I couldn't say no to."

Graves graduated from Yale in 1945, and received his MBA in 1949 and DBA in 1958 from the Harvard Business School. He was professor of Business Administration at the Business School from 1950 to 1960 and returned as associate dean of the MBA Faculty in 1967.

"The major challenge 1 have is to take the tremendous resoni?es developed at William and Mary in the last few years and move them toward a higher degree of excellency," he said.
