The Radcliffe tennis team wrapped up a winning season on home ground yesterday, heating Boston College, 3-2. The team lost only one match this year, to Princeton, and finished the season with a 3-1 record.
"I'm very happy with the season's out-come," coach Jean Evans said last night. "Everyone's worked hard this year, and it shows up in the results." Last year's team broke even for the season, with two wins and two losses.
Radcliffe scored victories, against B. C. in both the doubles matches, and in the second singles match, where Joy Skon defeated Kerin McTeague, 6-3, 6-0.
Kathy Day and Terry Steiner sailed past Sabine Devissman and Marie Mulvaney at first doubles, with a 6-0, 6-2 winning match against Denny Daych and Val Jacques.
Meg Morgan lost a tough three-setter to Debbie Discoe at first singles, 6-4, 4-6, 3-6. And Ellen Rouse lost a long third singles competition to Andrea Wolfe, 2-6, 7-5, 4-6.
Rain
The team played a total of four matches this year, not including the annual New England Collegiate and Seven Sisters Tournaments. The Wellesley match, traditionally close, was cancelled this year because of rain.
Most of this year's team will be back next year, and Meg Morgan and Joy Skon are both sophomores. For the first time. Radcliffe developed a second-string team this spring, which itself played several matches.
Evans plans to get the team out early in the fall to prepare for the New England Collegiates, which Yale will host.
