The Mail DEFERMENTS

By W.l. LOWE Jr.

To the Editors of the CRIMSON:

The House Armed Services Committee recently voted to extend the draft two years and to eliminate student deferments. Unless college students, their parents, girl friends and so forth write their Congressmen and Senators, now, they will lose their deferements by June 30th of this year (soon).

Why are the students so apathetic about this issue now, when they could work, within the system, by writing individual postcards and letters with their views as to the value of deferments? Congressmen and Senators watch their mail and react. This can result in decisions which can avoid riots and disorder.

Senator Kennedy should be most appreciative of hearing from the students who are residents of Mass.

Our family has written.... What say you to this?

Perhaps, with the help of your paper you can encourage more to write and reach other colleges, as well.
