Festival Group Holds Meeting

By Ann Juergens

An initial meeting of the Harvard Festival Committee last Sunday afternoon was attended by almost 70 people. Representatives of all the arts met to explore the possibilities of a university-wide arts festival tentatively slated for the first two weeks in May.

The Harvard Festival Committee is now working with the Faculty Theatre Committee on the production problems of the proposed festival. Whether it can actually be held this spring will be considered at the Faculty Theatre Committee meeting on Thursday, November 18.

"The plan is to turn all of Harvard into a festival," Louise Waldstein '72 said yesterday. Waldstein, along with Colin Cabot '72 and Jon Miller '72, was one of the originators of the festival idea. "There are hordes of talented people who pass through Harvard and never have their creations shown publicly," she added.

The purpose of the festival would be to give Harvard artists the opportunity to exhibit their abilities, Waldstein said. It is student involvement and contributions which are desired rather than those of outside artists, she added.

"We wish to bring out the excellence of Harvard artists as well as the potential of its facilities, such as the Loeb. Carpenter Center and the extensive cable TV network." Miller said yesterday.

Meetings open to the entire University will be held to work out the nature of specific areas of the proposed festival. Various possibilities include; dance, theatre (along with mime and opera), television and film, the static visual arts, all kinds of music, and anything else which attracts student interest.

Times of the meetings will be announced later this week.
