In a crucial Ivy match, Penn trounced Brown, 6-1, last Saturday on the Quakers' Franklin Field. Prior to the game Penn was ranked eighth in the nation and the Bruins were rated sixth nationally.
In the only other Ivy league contest. Columbia's Peter Vasudhara scored three goals and the Lions held on for a 3-2 triumph over Princeton.
Penn completely dominated its match with Brown. A light rain and the slick Quaker Astro turf gave Penn's speedy offense a slight advantage over Brown's strong defense. But the Quakers outplayed the Bruins in every aspect of the game.
Brown's All-American fullback Chip Young opened the scoring off a corner kick with only one minute gone in the game. Young, who at 6'2" is extremely dangerous on a corner, now leads the Bruins in scoring.
Penn Takes Command
Penn's Tom Liebermann tied the game six minutes later with a penalty shot. Four minutes after that, the Quakers' Bob Watkins intercepted a clearing pass and scored to put Penn in command.
Brown trailed only 2-1 at the half, but the Quakers controlled play throughout the second half and, tallied four more times.
Saturday's games include:
Yale at Brown
Columbia at Harvard
Princeton at Cornell
Penn at Dartmouth
