Local, State Police Bust Alleged Heroin Dealers

State and Cambridge Police arrested at least 28 Cambridge residents all day yesterday on charges of selling and using heroin.

The arrests were made after a four-month investigation conducted by State Police under the authority of the Middlesex County Grand Jury. The Grand Jury issued 39 warrants based on secret investigations.

Cambridge Police Chief James J. Reagan said last night, "There will be more arrests and this cuts into the heart of the heroin pushers." He added that a sizeable amount of heroin was confiscated in the raids.

State Police Sgt. Joseph Porcaccini confirmed that the drug raid was in progress all day today.

Jail

Those arrested were held last night in the Cambridge police station. They will be arraigned this morning before the Middlesex County Court.

The warrants were granted on the basis of investigations conducted by undercover police posing as heroin addicts. They allegedly made purchases over the four-month period.

Police did not disclose last night how much heroin had been seized in the raids nor whether they had involved the FBI or organized crime.
