Garber Privately Tells Faculty That Harvard Must Rethink Messaging After GOP Victory
To the Editors of the CRIMSON:
We would like to clear up some misunderstandings resulting from your article last Wednesday [Dec. 16] about the demonstration at the CFIA. At no time did the Harvard Republicans seek to prevent anyone from entering the building.
As firm supporters of academic freedom on campus, we would have found such action repugnant. We merely attempted to demonstrate our moral opposition to the use of coercion at Harvard by the radical left. Freedom of conscience, especially for academics with unpopular views, is vital to a great university.
Moreover, the Harvard Republican Club arranged this action independently. The presence of some YAFers in the crowd does not justify any other assumption.
