Denied Winter Campus Housing, International Students Scramble to Find Alternative Options
At meetings yesterday afternoon the varsity lacrosse team and the House athletic secretaries-who coordinate intramural sports-decided to cancel the rest of their schedules because of the present crisis.
The lacrosse team was the only one of the eight varsity squads to take such a step. They had decided last Wednesday to cancel practice for two days and to meet again yesterday for a decision on the schedule.
"The vote was more or less overwhelming," manager Luther Clark said last night. "The spirit of the team just wasn't the way it used to be, and we all figured it would be too bad to lose to Dartmouth after reaching a peak in the Princeton game," he added.
Midfielder Paul Bloom was one of the more avid supporters of cancellation. "I will be spending virtually all of my time on the strike." Bloom said last week. "Things are urgent enough to discontinue sports."
Two games remained to be played-Dartmouth and Yale.
House secretaries and intramural director Floyd S. Wilson had little choice in their decision. "There was no way to keep it all going with the strike," Eliot's Mike Brody explained. The only intramural event will be an unofficial crew race between Eliot and Kirkland.
Wilson and the secretaries did not decide how the winner of the Straus Cup will be determined. Kirkland and Winthrop are the top two contenders right now for the trophy. which goes each year to the House most successful in intramural.
