Quincy Snatches Wrestling Crown As Batman Falls

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Robin finally beat Batman, but the anties of Joel Coble and Charles Lindborg of Dudley House, impersonating the comic-strip heroes, were overshadowed by Quincy House's victory at the intramural wrestling tournament yesterday in the IAB.

The grapplers of Quincy emerged with two firsts and two seconds to edge Kirkland whose two firsts and a second produced a down-to-the-wire battle.

At the 160-pound class, Lindborg, in a red-white-and-blue capped outfit, and Coble, in black tights and T-shirt drew roars of laughter and cries of "fix" from the crowd. Complete with gasps, groans, and thuds and the acrobatics of pro wrestling, the match ended in a 16-14 overtime victory for Coble.

Quincy House picked up its points with an unopposed win by Ben Beach at 123, a second by Peter Wright at 145, and an intra-house duel at 167 between Herbert Waire, the winner, and Tom Dryer.

Kirkland took the finals at 177 as John Hayden beat housemate Randy Enger. Kirkland also got a default win at unlimited from Bob Hornick.

At 130, Jack Halpern of Eliot got a second-period reversal and a third-period predicament for a 4-1 victory over Tom Hannan of Leverett.

Perhaps the best exhibition of wrestling came at 145 where Josh Henson of Lowell, a transfer from the University of Michigan and a good prospect for next year's varsity wrestling team, fought off a tough challenge from Wright for a 9-5 win.
