HRPC to Poll On Rights Resolution

The Harvard-Radcliffe Policy Conmittee voted last night to conduct an undergraduate referendum on the Resolution on Rights and Responsibilities before the Faculty votes on it at their next meeting on March 3.

Students will be able to approve or disapprove of the Resolution. and may also indicate their familiarity with the entire issue of student discipline. Undergraduates will vote in their dining halls next Sunday and Monday.

"The referendum will not attempt to take a political stand on the question of student discipline, but instead will present some sense of undergraduate opinion on the specific resolution." said Steven E. Levy '71. originator of the referendum proposal. "Hopefully, the results will be considered during the Faculty debate next Tuesday." he added.

There will also be a space for comments on the questionnaire. But because the Faculty meets on Tuesday and the balloting will not be completed until Monday evening. HRPC members will not have time to analyze any comments.

The HRPC had earlier considered holding open hearings on the Committee on Rights and Responsibilities. When members learned that the Faculty was considering the Resolution next week, they decided instead on an immediate referendum.
