Phony Bomb Threat Clears Holyoke Center

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Anonymous callers phoned in two bomb threats on Holyoke Center yesterday, raising to four the number of threats the building has received in the last two weeks.

Instead of clearing the building, Harvard police informed its occupants of the threats, letting them decide for themselves whether or not they wanted to leave. Many remained in the building.

Last fall, Harvard received four bomb threats, three of them on Holyoke Center and one at 1737 Cambridge Street. In all but one of these threats Harvard police completely cleared the buildings prior to their searches for bombs.

No bombs have actually exploded in either of the buildings.

Harvard's Captain Walsh said that the bomb threats posed a difficult problem because he could never be sure whether they were real or merely sick humor. L. S. E.
