Paced by Bob McManama's first period hat trick, the freshman hockey team jumped to an early 5-0 lead and went on to defeat Princeton. 10-2, Saturday in New Jersey.

The Yardlings, now 8-1, clash with Dartmouth today in Hanover. The Indians will probably provide the Crimson with its toughest competition to date.

Although Harvard crushed the Dartmouth icemen, 8-2, in December at Watson Rink, the Indians have since defeated Boston University-which handed the Crimson its only loss in a 5-4 squeaker.

McManama

Against Princeton. center McManama grabbed a pass from David Hynes, the left wing on his line, and snapped the puck past Tiger goalie Ed Swift at 3:06 of the first period to open the scoring.

After second-line center Larry Desmond flicked another score past Finch seven minutes later, McManama quickly tallied his second and third goals.

With two minutes remaining in the opening period, defenseman Doug Elliott slapped a pass to wing Harry Reynols, who steered the puck into the corner of the Tiger not to give Harvard its 86th and last goal of the period.

Cleary Exhorts

"I don't want Princeton to get one shot on our goal for the rest of the game," Harvard coach Bill, Cleary, vehemently told his players between the first and second periods.

Minutes after Cleary said that, at 1-14 of the second period, Willie Bezan rifled a shot past Harvard goalie Joe Bertagna to spoil Cleary's dream of the first shut-out of the season.

Harvard countered with two goals 'later in the period, and Reynolds and Hynes scored in the third period to complete the romp over the Tigers.
