The Crimson basketball team departs this weekend for its most ambitious Christmas trip ever with seven games scheduled.
Harvard will face its toughest opponent so far this season when it plays Michigan in the opening round of the Michigan Invitational Tournament in Ann Arbor Monday night.
Not only do the Wolverines have strength on the boards and impressive? depth, but every starter on the squad is a potential 20-point scorer. Sophomore?? forward Henry Wilmore, who poured in?? 40 points against Duke two weeks ago ?? is Michigan's current leading scorer?? and one of the best forwards in the?? country.
Harvard Weakest?
The Wolverines' record is only 2-3, but its three losses were to sixth-ranked Notre Dame, Kentucky and Duke. With those three close contests for starters, Michigan rolled to two victories over area teams last week.
The winner of the Harvard-Michigan????? Crimson can stay with any team in the country.
"I think that the St. Louis game proved that to our ballplayers," said Harrison yesterday. "Against St. Louis we didn't play our style of running game, but we learned that we don't have to be afraid of anybody," he explained.
The Wolverines are a seasoned club, and if the Crimson expects to establish itself in the nation's basketball circles, it could take a big step in that direction by upsetting Michigan. But it will have to use its vast talent completely and efficiently. something it hasn't done yet this season. The Wolverines won't lose on mistakes.
On December 26, Harvard travels to Portland, Oregon, for the opening round of the Far West Classic. It faces Oregon???????????
