Fifteen people were arrested for disorderly conduct Saturday night as 300 Tactical Police broke up a crowd of about 100 people gathered on the Boston Common for a Yippie Halloween party.
The party, which had been advertised on flyers distributed throughout the Boston area, began at 8 p. m. Almost immediately, three police cars appeared and began driving through the crowd.
Instead of dispersing, the young people shouted at the police, jumped on the hoods of the cruisers, and smashed the windows of two of them.
At 8:30 the policemen, some accompanied by dogs, swept through the Common and down several adjoining streets, successfully ending the party. No serious injuries were reported.
