Bowling and Brawling With the Owls

The members of the Owl Club and their punches threw bowling pins at each other, ripped up a bus, and then turned on the Owl Club itself during their Final Dinner of the punching season on Sunday night.

Owl president, Richard J. Barrette '71, described the evening as "nothing unusual." A Porcellian club member said, "It happens all the time." A hangover pounce called it "unbelievable."

Club members and their guests went to a nearby country club for dinner, became intoxicated and descended on the country club's bowling alley.

After throwing pins at each other, bowling chairs down the alley, and throwing a bowling ball through a window, the group returned to their chartered bus and continued to entertain themselves.

The bus escaped fairly intact, minus a few shades and windows. One punchee was less fortunate as his hosts and friends tore his tuxedo off. Another punchee dropped his trousers and urinated on the seats.

Your Basic Brawl

The bus made it back to the Owl Club despite the driver's reluctance to go anywhere. The party continued as the remaining members and punchees partook in what a guest described as "sort of a saloon brawl."

Glasses were broken and furniture was pushed over, but Barrett-described damage as "nothing." "It was the normal kind of thing," he said.

Apparently no one was injured badly, although a punchee added that "bowling pins hurt." No one was spectacularly sick, either, A punchee said, "I didn't see anyone get sick until I saw myself in my room."

Of Course Not

According to witnesses, the country club used by the Owl Club for the dinner was not damaged in any extensive or serious way, but it is not likely that the Owl Club will be back next year. "Why do you think we have it in a different place every year? Nobody can take us two years in a row," a member said.
