When Rod Foster collapsed in the Princeton endzone after racing 78 yards, it wasn't because Foster was staggered by the joy of giving John Yovicsin a last winning season.
It was because he had pulled a hamstring. And with Foster injured, the apparently resolved quarterback question is once again uncertain.
Foster has been limping this week, and if he is not completely healthy on Saturday, Eric Crone will get another chance to prove himself at quarterback. Brown, Harvard's 1-6 opponent, will give Crone an excellent opportunity to look good as it heads for its fifth last-place finish in the last six years.
More Hamstrings
Cornerback Rick Frisbee is also suffering from a hamstring pull, but he should be ready to play by Saturday. Several other players, including defensive tackles Ed Vena and Mark Steiner and cornerbacks Steve Golden and Brad Fenton, are bruised but still expected to see action.
Yovicsin is obviously not too eager to risk losing these starters for the Yale game, especially when Saturday's opponent is a two touchdown underdog. Brown is reputedly a rough team, which is further incentive for Yovicsin to protect his ailing players.
While Harvard boosts its statistics against Brown this week, the Crimson's last victim. Princeton, will be trying to heal its alumni's bruised egos with a victory over Yale.
Yale is a clear favorite, but there is a chance for an upset. Princeton still remembers a loss to the Elis last season that cost it sole possession of the Ivy League championship.
Wondering
Dartmouth isn't wondering if it can beat Cornell. but it is wondering if it can win by 30 points. And since Cornell almost lost to Brown, the Indians' national rating should climb again after Saturday.
Still reeling from a disastrous trip to Hanover last weekend, Columbia will travel to Penn this Saturday to battle with the Quakers for sixth place.
