The Mets Did What?

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

NEW YORK-The underdogs of the world will have to find a new hero. Their darling for seven long years, the New York Mets, became champions last night as they clinched the National League's Eastern Division by trouncing St. Louis, 6-0.

Eestatie Mets fans completely covered the playing field of Shea Stadium after the game and remained for a long and loud celebration, reminiscent of Boston's response to the Red Sox Impossible Dream pennant of 1967.

The Mets, who finished in last (10th) place their first six seasons and 9th last years, must now meet the winner of the National League Western Division, either Atlanta or San Francisco, to decide who goes to the World Series in October.
