Army Blanks Harvard Nine, 5-0, In Crimson's First League Loss

Crimson hitters pounded out six hits Saturday but couldn't put any of them together, as Army handed Harvard its first Eastern Intercollegiate League loss, 5-0.

The Cadets managed only five hits against Harvard starter Bob Dorwart but capitalized on the seven walks he gave up.

A triple by Cadet first baseman Fettis and a two-run homer by third baseman Tom Kieger got Army off to a two-run lead, which they increased in the fourth and eighth innings.

Army scored in the fourth on three walks, a single ,and an error. In the eighth they drove in two more runs on two hits for the final margin of victory.

Harvard left at least one man on base in every inning except the first.

On Friday, the Crimson nine whipped Navy, 5-3, behind the clutch pitching of Ray Peters. Peters hurled himself out of trouble in both the second and the sixth innings.

Harvard bunched seven hits into three innings and captalized on two Navy errors for its five runs. Peters and second baseman Dick Manchester led the hitting with two hits apiece.
