Freshman Booters, Gridders Meet Highly-Rated Brown Teams Today

The two most explosive scoring threats in the Ivy freshman ranks will clash today when Harvard's freshman football team faces Brown at 2 p.m.

Halfbacks Steve Harrison of Harvard and Gary Bonner of Brown have been the workhorses of their offenses this season, compiling impressive rushing and scoring statistics, and they have both done it the same way--with finesse and speed, rather than power.

Harrison, a fluid runner who has scored five of the team's seven touchdowns, has been the mainstay of the Yardlings' erratic offense. Unable to find a steady quarterback, Harvard has had to rely on Harrison's breakway speed for their points.

George Crace seemed to be the answer for the freshman quarterback question when he engineered a 95-yard scoring drive against Princeton last week, but it was Harrison who carried the final 14 yards for the touchdown.

Bonner, who at six feet, 185 pounds is two inches taller and 15 pounds heavier than Harrison, has racked up 730 yards in 100 carries to lead the Bruins to a 4-1 record. He has scored eight touchdowns, but Brown's high scoring offense also includes quarterback Bob Zink and halfback Tom Spotts.
