Bob Seals won his second consecutive race and paced Harvard's freshman cross country team to an 18-45 victory over Andover Academy yesterday.
In a strong display of depth, the Yardlings captured five of the top six spots. Seals, who broke the freshman course record at Brown last Saturday, completed the two-and-a-half mile distance in the time of 11:34. The freshmen usually run three miles, but Andover only competes at the shorter distance.
Mike Koerner, racing for the first time since sustaining an ankle injury ten days ago, came in eight seconds after Seals to give the Crimson a one-two finish. A strong-kicking Andover man prevented a Harvard sweep by slipping into third place, but he was immediately followed by four of the freshmen.
Rich Barton, in his highest finish to date, was fourth in 12:01, and behind him was Andy Meltzoff. Alan Long and Phil Lichtenstein took sixth and seventh places.
Jake Seniuk, who turned in a time of 12:56, was in his first meet. He had been sidelined because of an injury to his thigh.
The freshmen were competing without Bob Jurgens, who has missed the last two meets due to an injured knee. He may be able to run Saturday against Cornell.
The Yardlings meet Cornell Saturday at 11:30 in Franklin Park, in what Coach "Pappy" Hunt rates as one of the three toughest meets this year.
