J.V. Superiority In Aerial Attack Beats Lions 13-6

NEW YORK, Oct. 7--Some gutty play-calling and the talent to make it work, gave the Harvard JV football team a 13-6 victory over Columbia today.

Nursing a 6-0 lead late in the second period, quarterback George Lalich called the same side-line pass play to halfback Ken O'Connell three times Each time, he connected, and the third time was in the end zone. Tom Wynne kicked the extra point for a 13-0 halftime lead.

Harvard's first touchdown had come on Lalich's two-yard quarterback sneak earlier in the period.

The second touchdown proved decisive when the Light Blue roared back early in the fourth period with a drive consisting of just four passes. Lion quarterback Don Hubert hit Spider Dempsey from the 23 for the score.

Dempsey had quite an interesting afternoon. Late in the fourth quarter, as Columbia desperately tried to move for a second touchdown from its own 34, he took a pass at about the 45. Trying to cut back for the extra step he needed for daylight, Dempsey instead went further and further back until he was tackled at the line of scrimmage.

Then, after the ensuing Columbia punt, Dempsey got in a fight with half the Harvard team and was ejected from the game. He was both hero and goat, and easily the most colorful man among the Light Blue.
