Haar Designated For HUD Office

President Johnson yesterday named Charles M. Haar, professor of Law, to a high position in the new Department of Housing and Urban Development. Haar, who is also on the faculty of the School of Public Administration, was appointed Assistant Secretary for Metropolitan Planning.

Since he joined the faculty here in 1952, Haar has been active in government affairs. He has served as consultant for the U.S. Housing and Home Finance Agency and the Town Planning Division of the United Nations.

Haar has conducted studies of land use planning in underdeveloped areas of Latin America for the Agency for International Development, and the President recently appointed him chairman of the task force for the Preservation of Natural Beauty.

Born in Antwerp, Belgium, Haar received his L.L.B. from Harvard in 1949. He has written several books on land use planning, including Land Planning Law in a Free Society (1951) and Land and the Law (1964).
