Riot Greets Rise In M.I.T. Fees

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Three hundred M.I.T. students threw snowballs, shouted, and burned IBM cards for an hour late last night to protest a $200 rise in tuition announced yesterday.

The rioters, who marched on the M.I.T. Presidential Mansion, "seemed to have been called out by the Freshman Council," according to a senior. He described the tuition rise as "inevitable" and the riot as "good, clean fun."

The slogan of the riot, "1900, Too Damn Much," was written on the burned IBM cards. "It sure brings attention to the fact that $1900 is too damn much," a freshman observed afterwards.

The riot ended about 11 p.m.
