Two Harvard organizations are planning to bring out new magazines.
The Harvard Journal of Negro Affairs, published by the Association of African and Afro-American Students, will go on sale in House dining halls today.
The Journal, 'a semi-annual has been in the planning stages since the AAAAS was formed two years ago. Henry C. Binford '66, one of two editors of the magazine, explained that "financial reasons" kept the review from appearing earlier.
"We also wanted to wait until we had enough articles to make a selection, and that delayed us a bit," Binford added.
In the magazine's first issue, Sheila Rush, a 1964 graduate of the Harvard Law School, criticizes civil rights organizations which "fail pathetically in their formulated purposes, reflecting the seemingly ineradicable weakness of the civil rights movement in the North."
Miss Rush, currently an employee of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, says that the "new militants" display "a simplistic emotional approach to problems, issues, and actions." "Like most Americans, they fail to transcend the limits of the personal."
The Harvard Young Republican Club plans to bring out the first issue of the Harvard Republican Review next September.
The Review will contain articles by Republicans who have spoken at Harvard, reports of HYRC committees, and writings by undergraduate Republicans.
The first issue, will tentatively include articles by Robert Taft Jr., Winthrop Rockefeller, and William Rusher, a former president of the HYRC who is publisher of the National Review. Taft, Rockefeller, and Rusher have all spoken at Harvard this spring.
