William G. Anderson '39 will succeed J. Hampden Robb '21 as University Marshal July 1, President Pusey announced Sunday.
Anderson will direct major University ceremonials and offer official hospitality to distinguished visitors while continuing his work in investment and trusteeship.
Born in Cincinnati in 1916, Anderson entered Harvard from St. Paul's School. Later he studies naval architecture at M.I.T.
Robb will lead commencement on June 17 for the last time. Since 1957 he has been planning and conducting the commencement exercises, as well as serving as official host for the University.
Robb, a practicing architect, is a former president of the Boston Society of Architects. He has been active in Harvard alumni affairs, at one time serving as New England regional vice-president of the Associated Harvard Clubs.
